What We Actually Pack for a Boutique Pop-Up: 7 Small Things That Save the Day

What We Actually Pack for a Boutique Pop-Up: 7 Small Things That Save the Day

Running a boutique pop-up looks cute from the outside—clothes on racks, pretty displays, accessories styled just right—but behind the scenes, there are a few not-so-glamorous items doing a LOT of the heavy lifting.

After setting up our share of pop-ups and vendor markets, we’ve learned that the smallest supplies are usually the ones you miss the most when you forget them.

Here are a few things that stay on our pop-up packing list.

1. Zip Ties

Zip ties may be one of the least exciting things in our setup kit, but they are easily one of the most useful.

We use them to secure displays, keep things from shifting, attach signage, reinforce lightweight fixtures, and handle those random setup problems that you never know you're going to have until you're standing in the middle of a vendor space trying to solve one.

We like keeping multiple sizes on hand because you never know what you'll need.

Why we pack them: They're inexpensive, take up almost no room, and can solve about 15 different problems in five minutes.

2. Tent Weights

If you're doing an outdoor market, please don't rely on good weather and positive thinking to keep your tent in place.

Tent weights are one of our non-negotiables for outdoor events.

Even when the weather seems calm, wind can pick up quickly. A properly secured tent helps protect your merchandise, your setup, neighboring vendors, and everyone walking through the event.

Why we pack them: A cute setup isn't worth much if the tent decides it wants to relocate.

3. Sticky Tack / Mounting Putty

This is one of those little things that's surprisingly useful.

We use removable mounting putty for lightweight signs, necklace displays,  price cards, small decorations, and anything that needs just a little extra help staying where we put it.

It's especially helpful when we're working in a temporary space and don't want to use anything permanent.

Why we pack it: Pop-up displays have a habit of shifting, falling, leaning, or refusing to cooperate. Sticky tack is our quiet little problem solver.

4. Scissors

Never assume someone else will have scissors.

We use them constantly during setup—for opening boxes, cutting tags, trimming zip ties, opening packaging, fixing displays, and handling all the little things that come up while we're getting ready.

We actually recommend keeping a dedicated pair in your pop-up supplies instead of borrowing the pair you use at home.

Why we pack them: You won't realize how badly you need scissors until you're standing there without any.

5. Bungee Cords

Bungee cords are another one of those multipurpose items that earn a permanent spot in our setup supplies.

They're useful for securing items during transportation, keeping carts and bins together, stabilizing parts of a display, and helping everything stay put on the ride to and from an event.

Having a few different lengths gives you more flexibility.

Why we pack them: Setup is only half the battle. Your merchandise also has to survive the trip there and back.

6. Purse Hooks

Because we sell handbags and accessories, purse hooks help us make better use of our display space.

Instead of having every bag sitting on a table or shelf, hooks allow us to use vertical space and make products easier for customers to see.

They're especially helpful in smaller vendor spaces where every inch matters.

Why we pack them: Good merchandising isn't always about adding more fixtures. Sometimes it's about getting more use out of the space you already have.

7. Push Pins

Simple? Yes.

Useful? Absolutely.

Push pins come in handy for signage, lightweight display pieces, backdrops, information cards, and last-minute adjustments depending on the type of booth or space we're using.

We keep a small container of them inside our setup kit so they aren't floating around loose.

Why we pack them: They're one of those tiny supplies that can save you from having to completely rethink a display on setup day.

Our Biggest Pop-Up Packing Tip

Create a dedicated setup kit and leave these supplies in it.

Seriously.

Once we find something that repeatedly makes setup easier, it earns a permanent spot in the pop-up supplies. That way we're not searching the house for scissors, wondering where the zip ties went, or realizing we forgot something after we've already arrived.

You don't need an enormous collection of expensive tools to make vendor markets easier. Sometimes it's the $5–$20 basics that save the most time and frustration.

And after a long setup day, anything that makes the process faster is a win in our book.

We'll keep updating our list as we discover more tools and products that make boutique life a little easier.
